Can someone tell Ms. Ross to sit down....
Shut up
and pick up her glass of wine....
Things Diana Ross related were a lot more fun when she was too busy getting drunk to release crappy cover albums of songs like "The Look of Love" and too busy behind patted down for drugs at Heathrow to start slime campaigns against the movie Dreamgirls.
Where is a good Mary Wilson/Diana Ross legacy of The Supremes smackdown when you need one.
So Backstory:
Apparently Diana Ross has been against Dreamgirls since it debuted on/off Broadway (I wasn't alive yet and don't know/remember....kinda hard to as an embryo) in 1981. Now that it's a feature film, she apparently campaigning to smear it to 1) Make sure it doesn't win any awards (like not even a NAACP Image award Diana?) 2) To hurt it's chances at box office success ( She apparently doesn't have a clue what the combination of the Black Movie Going public and the Gay Dollar can do to help a film....the gawd awful Medea movie/plays aren't making Tyler Perry rich out of thin air). and 3) No to have this movie define the legacy of The Supremes and Her life herself
Ms. Ross
It isn't about you.....
It's a fictionalized tale about a 1960's girl-group. with similarities to The Supremes story, but with elements of other Girl Groups also. Namely, The Shirelles, since they also moved prettier (but actually vocally talented) Shirley Owens into the permanent lead spot for commercial viability in the place of Doris Coley. Also, The Supremes didn't start out singing behind a male R&B vocalist on the road, the Vandellas did. The Supremes, even after they had their first hit with "Lovelight" in 1964 we the bottom feeder 1st or 2nd act on a tour package....not in support of anyone else...
While I'm pointing out the facts. The Effie (Florence Ballard) character succeeds after being booted. I know alot of factors contributed to Florence's downfall from the Supremes, and I'll be first to point out, the last year of her life, she was getting her shit together (New House, New Cadillac, apparently doing demos and writing what may have been the first tell-all about Motown). But, that's one glaring point, that makes it not your story.
The only one that emerged a superstar out of the Supremes, was you.
You were lucky, because you were by far not the most talented at Motown, or hell, even in your own group.
Shouldn't you be a little thankful for the success you have had.
And leave stories, fictional stories, alone.
Don't Threaten to sue or any of that BS
You should really be ashamed of yourself
Florence Ballard is shaking her head from beyond at your crazy drunk ass
If you want to establish your own legacy. Make your own movie, about how you remember your past.Do your Supremes movie. It might be a camp classic like Mommie Dearest, I hope.
It'll give Traycee a job once Girlfriends is canceled.
